About Bargara Occupational Therapy

Founded by Karla Kirchner in 2018, Bargara Occupational Therapy was born from a passion for helping children thrive.

Initially based in Bargara, the practice moved to Innes Park where we created a dedicated therapy space. Our unique clinic is creating a welcoming and relaxed environment for children to learn, play and grow.

What began as a solo endeavor has flourished into a team of four skilled therapists, with occasional support from student practitioners eager to learn from our experience and the inspiring journeys of our clients.

At Bargara Occupational Therapy, we are dedicated to working closely with families to nurture children’s skills, confidence, and potential. By fostering life skills, social abilities, and a positive self-outlook, we empower children to thrive within their community, both now and in the future.

Our Mission

Our mission is to deliver occupational-focused interventions that empower parents and caregivers to integrate therapeutic strategies into a child’s daily routines and natural environment. These interventions emphasise motivation, leisure and play, habits and routines, meaningful roles, life skills, functional cognition, physical activity, community engagement and independence, communication and interaction, self-management, emotional regulation and environment.

Our Values

Our core values centre on providing therapy to the best of our ability while continuously expanding our knowledge and expertise to support others holistically.
We adopt a trauma-informed approach, acknowledging the profound impact trauma can have on children and families across physical, emotional, psychological, and cognitive domains. We recognise how trauma may influence a child’s ability to engage and participate, as well as a parent’s experience with healthcare professionals and fulfilling their parenting/caring role.
